Parade!

Alright, we've got the info!

We are #36 in the parade and we are in the Blue Group (Group B). Our group will be lining up heading North on 200 East in Tooele (next to the Tooele Cemetery.) We will be meeting at 7:45 sharp. If you are late, we may lose our spot and get put at the end of the parade. So NO LATER than 7:45 am.

Come wearing jeans, (shorts or pants are fine), with your jersies. Please wear either a white or black tank underneath. You may wear your hair as you like.

You are each required to bring one bag of candy to throw. (Please make sure you throw out wisely..... we want to make sure we have enough for the kiddos at the end of the parade!)

Please make sure you come hydrated and you've eaten; it will be hot! With that said, please make sure you are wearing sun block!

It will be a fun morning!!! I can't wait to see all of you again. Let's represent our school well by being spirited, having good sportsmanship, and being AWESOME! (Because we are!)

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can leave a comment below, email me, call or text. Thanks for all you do!

P.S. Katie or officers, if there is anything I missed please just leave a comment below!

Officers, Leadership, & Seniority

At camp, we had some confusion on officers and leadership. I've talked to many of you on how I feel about seniority and leaders on the team. In pondering a real "clear-cut" description, my opinion and expectation on things has slightly changed. I want EVERYONE to study the chart below so that we all know what our role is:

Captain: Veronica

Drill Mistress: Janica / Co-Captain: Katie

Secretary: Jessica

Historian: Emily

Jr. Rep: Sarah/ Soph. Rep: Maddie/ Fresh. Rep: Kylie

Team: All members

As you can see, this is the "ranking order" of our officers of our team. You will find in society, there is a rank to just about everything; this is how things get done effectively. Representatives- although you are different levels of seniority, you are all ranked equally. This is because your job is to deal with your class; not the entire team. Secretary is ranked higher than Historian because there are more duties required to be the Secretary.

Girls, please remember that we have officers for a reason. Without them, we would have NO TEAM. I have witnessed a team that had no leadership, no officers, and the outcome was disastrous. You need to respect your officers and listen to them when they have comments or critiques. They are not here to boss you around and be mean, but to help you grow by giving you effective criticism and being good examples. If any of you ever feel that you are being "bossed" let your coaches know so we can fix the problem. REMEMBER; please don't take offense with your officers. They are here to help our team and each girl individually. (They have paid their dues too.... they weren't always officers.)

Seniority. Just like leadership, Seniority is almost everywhere in life. Within our team, their will be times that seniority "rules." Our older members have generally had more experience with "drill life." So, older members can help lead the team by experience. However, I will not tolerate older members being mean or disrespectful in any way to a younger member. We do not discriminate or harass.

In leadership positions, seniority will help, but will not determine ranks. If a Junior is chosen as Captain and a Senior is chosen as Co-Captain, Captain still has higher rank. If this ever happens, you need to respect their talents and realize that seniority doesn't matter; talent and skill level do.

Formations. When it comes to formations seniority or officer rank DOES NOT matter. Talent level and work ethic will determine your spot in formations. I do not care how long each of you have been on the team; I will do what looks best for our team and our dance piece.

I hope this clears things up. I wanted to publish this post on here so that you can refer to it at any time so the lines are always clear. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Stay positive, respect yourself, your officers and your fellow team members. (Believe it or not we actually get judged on this.... they judge on how "unified and spirited" our team feels on the floor.) So lets be the most UNIFIED team out there! Love you all.

Upcoming Events

Hello! I hope you are all enjoying your time off. Have fun with your last couple days of your break.

Practice will be starting up before you know it, so please make sure ladies that you are preparing. Be stretching, practicing you al la secondes, and reviewing your camp dances (hip hop, camp routine, and funhouse.) Let's keep working hard- I have big plans for all of you! I think we are going to do GREAT this year if we just put forth all the effort we can.

Our Parade is this upcoming Monday on the 4th! I don't have the details yet, but when we get more information, I will make a post.

We will be starting up practices again on Tuesday, July 5th. We will be working hard on technique this week- so, you may wear your black gore boots. :)

On Thursday, July 7th, Jen will be coming to do another technique class with us, so that means your $10 Technique Fee will be due by Wednesday, receipts to me by Thursday. (I know that some of you have already paid for all three technique sessions- so you are good!)

Our Car Wash is Saturday, July 9th~ more info soon to come!

The next dead week is July 25th-29th.

PLEASE NOTE!

We will be having our Military Boot Camp on August 5th and 6th. (This is different from out Boot Camp we are having to learn our Dance and Character pieces on September 9th and 10th) *We will be learning our Military Competition piece (that I will be choreographing.) Friday, August 5th, our practice will be held at regular hours, 6am-8:30am. Saturday, August 6th, we will be practicing from 6am-12pm with a short 45 min break in between. THIS IS MANDATORY. Please talk to me if you have any questions or concerns. (More in depth information will come.)

Whew! A lot of information. Remember that you can always look in our upcoming events tab at the top of the blog along with finance dates and calendar info. This blog will be your best drill friend!

Lastly, remember to "Follow By Email" at the side bar of the blog. This way, you will always be as up to date as possible with the latest announcements. Thanks!

Getting Ready For a Great Experience!

First, Happy Father's Day to all you wonderful dads!!

Second, Camp is tomorrow!!!!

Hopefully all of you are getting ready and checking your lists twice. :)

Here are some things to remember:
- Physically cross off things that are packed on your packing list
- Double check and triple check
- Make sure you are packing your items in the appropriate bags. The bag you will be carrying with you to UVU needs to have all your dance shoes, water bottle, money, snacks, performance wear (including tights, makeup, bobby pins, safety pins, etc..) and 5 things about you bag, and then any thing else you may need with you.
- Make sure all your costumes, practice gear, dance shoes, warm ups, and bags have your name written in them. This is Very important!
- Remember to bring breakfast or a lot of snacks for Monday; we will not be eating until 1:30.
- Come dance ready and meet at 6:15am outside in your warm ups and walking shoes. Officers will be checking that you are wearing the correct things and that you have packed everything before you can get on a bus. If an important part is missing, a demerit will be given!
- Parents and family, remember that the performances on Monday start at 8:00 pm. Flyer found here.
- Make sure you pack your secret sister gifts!!!
- On the bus ride down, be respectful of the driver. You may talk, but please don't yell or get up from your seats. Chantal will be on the bus with you, so I will hear how it goes. :) Take this time and get to know your new Co-Coach!
- Remember the expectations I have for you at camp. Don't forget to listen, be respectful, and work hard. Remember to be courteous to your teachers, fellow campers, and guests at UVU and the hotel. We can have fun, but be mindful of 0thers. (Merits and Demerits will be given for behavior as well!)
- Come ready with a big SMILE and ready to have a fantastic experience! I want to see all of you try your best no matter what, and push yourself to center front in every class!

P.S. Please, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to text or call me or your officers. I'd rather have everyone be over prepared and 100% knowledgeable, then to be under prepared. I don't mind questions.. my theory is: no question is a stupid question.

We are READY!
GO CAMP!!!

I am so sorry if you didn't get the time change this afternoon- I realize that many of you spent a good hour or so waiting. I can assure you that I am very appreciatiave and I realize that a lot of time was wasted. I apologize for any inconvenience that was caused.

Thank you for all you do and for being so great. You all have been so wonderful. Hopefully your donuts were worth the wait.

Sincerely,
Kamie

Big Week Ahead

We've got a BIG week ahead of us!

Camp is ONE week away! We have quite a bit to do to get ready!

I just received our information for camp, so in the next couple days I will be getting to you all the information. (Go Camp!)

First, I want to remind all of you about the things that are DUE this week!

By now, EVERYTHING should be turned in, including:
-Krispy Kreme forms and money (Receipts BY Tuesday, any later will result in a demerit!)
-All Technique money paid to finance office
-Signed and turned in constitution papers
-Filled out and turned in Get To Know You papers
-I have ALL your Conflict Calendars
** If ANY of these things are not to me BY Tuesday morning, Demerits will be given. (Last Warning!)

For camp, they will give us a CD of our professional team and officers pictures that they will take at the very beginning of camp. The cost is $50.00. I assume that everyone will want a team copy of this CD so we can print pictures and so forth, so each girl will need to pay only $3.00 to the finance office by Wednesday. That gives you Monday and Tuesday to pay, receipts to me by Wednesday morning. (Thanks in advance parents!)

Now, on to the fun stuff!

Remember that we are kicking off this busy week and summer with a fantastic Pot Luck Luau tomorrow night! Note the time change (5:30pm) at the Lake Point Pavilion. Bring your assigned foods and bring the family! It will be a fun night, so come and enjoy! (Karla, is there anything else?)

Parents and girls, know that on this Wednesday we will be ending practice 15 minutes early. We are having an officer's meeting after practice, but because I am a mother and I need to be home before the hubby takes off, we need to release early. So, on this Wednesday practice will be from 6am-8:15. (Parents, note time to pick up your daughters!) Thanks!!!!

Officers- make sure you are communicating on our officers blog about anything that needs to happen at our officer's meeting. Make sure you are also finishing your assignments and you come prepared for Wednesday's meeting!

This Saturday, June 18th, we will be receiving and each of you will deliver your Krispy Kreme donuts. (Time that we are receiving TBA). I'll let you know when I find out more details.

Whew! What a busy week ahead! With camp just around the corner, we need to do all we can to be as prepared as possible. Ladies, please make sure tonight you are stretching, working on our al la secondes, leg extensions, fan kicks, and that you are reviewing the camp dance! (CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!) Come ready to work hard!

Tomorrow, you will be getting details about camp, but the one thing that is stated numerously on there is to make sure all of you are physically fit and ready for a demanding, yet fun, camp!

Here is the list of schools that will be attending:

Alta
Bingham
Canyon view
Maple Mountain
Riverton
Viewmont

So, as many of you know, Canyon View placed 1st at State last year in 3A. They are good, (and our direct competition.) Bingham, has won 5A State two years in a row.
There are GREAT teams going to this camp and the talent level is high. But, on the bright side, this means that State Champs are coming to this camp, which means that this camp must be great!

So, with all that said, lets work hard this week and be ready to show everyone at camp what we got!!! (WE CAN DO IT!!!)

Friday, June 10, 2011

Reminders! :)

Please review our Camp dance EVERYDAY. :)
Practice al la seconde turns, fan kicks, etc. :)
Please stretch every night.. or when you are bored stretch! It can never hurt you to stretch, it will only help! :) Krispy Kreme receipt NEEDS to be turned in by Tuesday..
Remember the time change for the party on Monday (5:30) and remember what you are in charge of bringing. If you have questions, you can contact Janica or Karla :)
Thanks :)

al la secondes

Hey cute girlies-

Today I felt was a little rushed going through our a la secondes, and since they are so important (because they will be in our camp routine and dance routine), I decided to make a post talking about the technique of it so that you can practice at home. (I know you won't have room to do it full out)

I want to make sure all my instructions are clear.

I found a video on you tube that does a great job at explaining and demonstrating. (when watching, please don't listen to her counts though... ours are different)

Look at her posture, form, flexibility and strength. Like I said, some of you may not be able to bring your leg to hip height until we get our strength in our hip flexors and flexibility up (which will happen the more you practice these)
The main changes in levels will happen on counts 1 and 2.
Counting goes:

  • (5,6) prep 7,8

  • AND 1 - there shouldn't be much of a level change from AND to 1, but a deep plie (she does a great job at this in the video)

  • 2 - everything comes to second, arms strong and tight, and leg completely straight

  • 3- plie again to corner

  • 4- everything comes to second again

  • and so on

*Things to focus on:

  • Spot

  • lemon juice (ya know what I mean)

  • abs tight (remember, the tighter your abs and the quicker your spot, the easier these will be)

  • heads up

  • precise arms

  • DRILLING the ball of your foot into the ground

  • NO hopping! (Unless I make you hold it! haha)

Getting started correctly is half the battle... it is the hardest part. If you get your first a la seconde correct, your next should be golden!

Practice your form at home. Do the basic things that she does at the beginning of the video. This WILL help your turns if you do this for just 5 minutes a day at home. Keep stretching, smiling, and being awesome!

Excited

It was so great meeting all of you parents last night! Thank you for all your input and ideas, I know that this year is going to be fantastic because all of you are so supportive. It will be fun to work with all of you more.
I just have a couple of remiders of my own.
First, remember that our $10 for technique is due tomorrow. (Thursday)
Second, note that in our minutes from the meeting that was sent to all of you by Karla, that the 2 day Boot Camp has changed from September 2nd and 3rd, to September 9th and 10th. (Just one week later, still on a Friday night and Saturday morning/afternoon.
Girls, please make sure you are practicing your camp dance tonight and tomorrow since we won't be working on it tomorrow.
Be practicing your specialty items in the dance such as your:
a la secondes
fan kicks
and my leg extension girls at the beginning.

Thank you everyone and I am so excited about this year. We have a great bunch of girls and great parents to support- Shannah really left me in a great spot. Have a great Wednesday!

Reminders of the Day :)

Just a few little reminders,
Technique class tomorrow, plese make sure you have the correct shoes! If anyone has any extra jazz shoes that they don't need anymore, if you could bring them to practice for girls who may not have any, that would be wonderful! :)
Please Please Please, turn in your constitution sheet! :)
We won't be dancing in the 4th of July parade, just riding! :)

Girls- please take some time today to review the parts we cleaned of our camp dance so far. Go over the parts that we changed, (all of the & counts and angles), remember our heads and angles. I will give you just 5 minutes at the beginning of practice to ask any questions you have about what we've cleaned so far, and then I'd like to run through it a couple of times and go on!
If you work HARD and things look GREAT, then hopefully we can take some minutes this week to get to know each other better! (I would really like to spend some quality time with you girls and learn your names and all about you if I can!) So lets work hard so we can reap the rewards and have some fun!

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

Here are the deets for the our fabulous donut fundraiser!

~We have changed the minimum amount of donuts sold by each girl from 15 to 5! (We can all easily do 5 right?)

~I will give you until Friday, June 10th at practice to hand in your forms with AT LEAST 5 dozen sold

~Make sure all payments are paid directly to the finance office; checks made to Stansbury High School or Stansbury High School Drill Team.

~We will receive and deliver the donuts on Saturday, June 18th (Exact time still to come)~If anyone sells MORE than 5 dozen, that money will go DIRECTLY to your funds, meaning, that any extra boxes sold can help pay your fees. We will subtract that from the total amount you owe for the year! That is a GREAT deal!

Let me know if any of you have questions. I know we can all get 5 dozen sold in a week! (Remember I am selling 5 too!) Thanks for your hard work team and parents!

A Great Start!

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to say again how excited I am for this year- we have a TON of talent and I can tell all of you are hard workers!! Yay!

Like said earlier, this blog will be a very important tool for the team and for the parents. Please check often; not only on posts but at the pages at the top. I want the blog to be as informative as possible- I think overtime as the blog develops it will help keep all of us on the same page. You can search through our blog by the google search engine at the top, through our blog archive, or at the labels to the right.

I have asked Karla (our Booster Club President), and Jessica, (our team Secretary), to help make posts and announcements on this blog. (Thanks again!)

So, be on the look out for posts or updates from myself, Jessica, or Karla! Please email me if you have any questions or concerns- also feel free to leave a comment on our blog. I'm looking forward to communicating with all of you!
