Teams Attending Murray Classic

Received the info on what teams we will be competing against at our Murray Competition!

Juan Diego
Morgan
North Sanpete
Payson
Uintah
Stansbury!!
There are only 6 3A teams at this competition. This is a HUGE competition for 5A with 17 teams! (I'm glad we're not 5A, sheesh!)

Morgan is in our region, so it is wonderful practice to compete against them before Region comes! There are 6 competing in Dance and Military, 4 of us competing in Character, 4 of us competing in Hip Hop, and 4 of us competing in Officers. Wahoo!

Here are the mandatory hip hop practice days for January:

    Tuesday Jan 3rd 3-5pm
    Wednesday Jan 4th 3-5pm

    Wednesday Jan 1th 2:45-5pm

Please clear your schedules now as these are mandatory. Work and dance studios will need to understand that week of competition practices are important. Thank you!

    Hazen Pick Up

Hazen pictures are available to be picked up at Chantal's house. Everything but the team photos are there.

    Enjoy!

    Cookie Dough, Part lll

Sorry about all the cookie dough posts!!!

I am requiring each girl to sell $50 worth aka 10 bags. You can sell while bringing the cookie dough with your or pre-sale and then deliver; either one is just fine. Whatever works best for you!!!!

    Thanks!

    Cookie Dough, Part II

    Hey Team,

You can get your cookie dough from myself, Heidi, or Teresa Hansen. There are two dozen cookies per bag, they are all M&M cookies. There are about 150 bags total to sell. They cook at 350 for 12-18 minutes. Kendra's mom had a great idea to cook some in quarters and give them as samples as you sell them. Let me know if you have questions,

    Thanks and Happy Holidays,

    Karla

    Workout/Tech days in December

(You should all love me for not holding mandatory practices over our non-moratorium days over break!)

BUT, we will be offering a couple of optional practices for workouts, technique, and stretching.

    So we have:

    • Wed, Dec 28th Workout/Deep Stretch from 7am-8am
    • Thurs, Dec 29th Technique day from 8am-9:30am
    • Friday, Dec 30th Workout/Deep Stretch from 7am-8am
Hope you all can make it! It will help get us ready after Christmas for our two weeks of practice before Murray Classic! Have fun, eat food, but remember to stretch nightly and run through the routines so we don't digress. Lets begin where we left off when we come back from the holidays!

    Love you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

    Cookie Dough Fundraiser

I know many of you have freezer fulls of cookie dough, so lets start selling!

We will sell each bag for $5.  We will begin now and all money will be due to the finance office (and final sales) on January 20th.

These should sell great for Christmas, New Years, and during the cold month of January! Since this is pure profit, I am okay if you have to lower the price a tiny bit for anyone that needs it. Thanks Kendra and family!!!

Thanks girlies, and AMAZING job this past weekend! Have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    Competition Hair

Hey ladies. I've heard several girls say they need to know the hair right now so they can know how to do it. I've heard that a few people don't like the hair from last time, and some girls want something easier. So here is what we're doing Saturday! Part on the left, braided bangs, and bun in the back near the bottom. The braid needs to be an under braid (french braid). If you can't do a French braid, find someone to help you! Several of us can braid!
To school on Friday wear your jackets to school, and tell everyone about our competition! :)

    Friday Details

Here are the girls I have going down to the solo competition Friday night:
Hailey, Erin, Kendra, Paige, Olivia, Katie, Aly

Make sure you bring ALL your stuff to practice tomorrow. Jessica will be posting the competition packing list tonight, just make sure you pack items for an overnight stay and money. *There are not very many stores down there- please don't forget anything!!

Please wear your blue stallionette t-shirt with jeans Friday night.

I will be excusing you at 1:50 tomorrow. Grab your things and then meet outside the front doors of the school (that's where I'll be with the suburban)

Make sure you pick up the overnight form TODAY at the front office, have your parent sign it, and bring it back to me tomorrow!

We will be eating dinner somewhere in Delta before the competition starts.

All other girls, please make sure you read the detailed post so you know what time we are meeting and details.

    Get ready to have fun!

    Friday Night Solo

Since we don't have a basketball game, we have scheduled the suburban and I will be driving down with Chantal on Friday to watch Chloe's solo. We will be spending the night at the Budget Motel in Delta. We have scheduled a couple of rooms and we can fit 8-9 people total (including myself the driver.) We will take down who ever gets back to me first.

You will just need $15 for the hotel room per girl plus money for food Friday night and Saturday night. Four girls have already gotten back to me, so we have 2-3 more spots left. (I am still finding out official number of how many the suburban can hold.) Please let me know quickly if you'd like to go! (You'll have so much fun with me and Chantal! haha)

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.

    No Game Friday

Correction, there is no game Friday. Please consider going to support Chloe for her solo! We are currently trying to figure out rides, etc... Let me know if you're interested.

    Sorry about the confusion.

P.S. Make sure you wear your warm ups to school tomorrow.

    Competition Schedule

Click below to look at our Delta Competition schedule.

    Great Basin Program

    Homework Tonight

Your homework tonight is to go over all the parts in military you are unsure about, mess up on, or need extra practice on. It should be completely clean. If you have questions tonight, call an officer/Janica and ask!

Here are some things I'd like you to be practicing this week:

    • Flexibility- sit in those splits! You should now be comfortable sitting in them- not straining at all.
    • Posture- practice sitting and walking upright with shoulders back, abs engaged! (*Remember like I said, if you walk around all day with your stomach contracted, you would have a six pack!)
    • Head stand control and timing- know your counts!
    • Kickline technique- not swaying your upper body, correct turnout, foot placement, and hookup
Please be going over your facials and sound effects. I will be posting some of the main comments we got from judges on the blog. Remember that execution was our lowest scores. I know we can do it ladies! 10 minutes a night will help TREMENDOUSLY! Love ya :)

    Great Basin (Delta) Competition Details!

Our next competition is already here!

Again, we will be meeting at the school at 5:15am, we will leave promptly at 5:30am. Don't be late!

We will do a packing list check at 5:15am upon arrival. The Grantsville Lariettes will be riding down on the bus with us, so we will be putting all our bags underneath the bus. If there is anything you need on the bus, place in a separate small bag you have on the seat with you. Be respectful and good sports. We will be letting them get on the bus first. They will sit at the back  so that I can communicate with the bus driver. It will be fun to have a larger cheering section during competition for each other!

Check in starts at 7:30am. We are the very first team again to perform, but this time Officer's are first with the competition starting at 10am.

For Parents, The competition will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.  The school address is 50 W. 300 N. Delta.  If you haven't been to Delta High School before, drive west on main Street in Delta and turn right (North ) at the 7-11 Store.  This will bring you directly to the Palladium parking lot. It doesn't mention what time they will begin letting in spectators, but I am assuming that 9:30am would be a great time to be there. Spectator Fees are Adults $7.00, Students $4.00, Seniors $3.00, 6 & under free. *Don't be afraid to cheer and scream!!! Try to sit together so a big section erupts when our girls step on the floor- it feels wonderful to hear that!

Here are a list of our performance times:

    • Officers- 10:10am - very first for the day.... I think that we are just that awesome that all the comps what to have us go first! haha
    • HipHop- 11:14am - a pretty quick change officers!!!
    • Military- 1:30pm- we are close to the end in this division which is ALWAYS best!!!!
    • Dance- 2:55pm- also a pretty quick change
    • Character- 4:30pm
Surprisingly, we are against a whopping 8 teams in our main divisions; there are more 3A than any other at this competition. I thought this would be a smaller competition, but I'm assuming everyone was thinking that resulting in quite a large one! That's only 2 less than UVU! I will be giving each girl a list of teams/schedule tomorrow at practice.

    Stallionettes:
    • We will not be getting any practice time on the competition floor. We are going to have to do our very best to "feel each other" and not the floor!!! If there is time, we will go in the stands and mark from up high.
    • There are many quick changes. If you aren't in every dance, be ready to help. Listen and stay focused so things can move efficiently!
    • Jessica will be posting a packing list and Veronica will be posting hair instructions. *Those that used egg whites at the last competition, their hair stayed, and looked better than those that didn't. This is mandatory. Those that don't use egg whites will result in the team running. (It is small things like this that really make a difference AND it saves time at the competition avoiding re-application of gel/hairspray.) Those that did it said that their hair was so soft after they washed it out- it truly is really good for your hair- I promise!!!
    • Again, it states that food/drink are not allowed in the dressing rooms, but i'm okay with you bringing "clean" snacks and bottled water.*Please do not make a mess- this competition requires a $50 cleaning deposit that we may/or may not get back when they give us our judges sheets/checkout at the end of competition. *We will have a classroom for our dressing room, which is how the rest of our competitions (except for State) will be. Do not touch anything in the classroom- it should look exactly the same at check out as when we get there.
    • Since Officers is first, I will be having other members do our shoe check and music check. I will be having  Olivia and Mckaylee do shoe check and Erin and Caitlyn do music check. Please get with the officers that have done this before to make sure you understand what you need to bring/do. Both checks will begin at 8am, shoe check at the announcers table and music at the sound system. By doing this, our officers will have plenty of time to get dressed, stretch, and review. Thanks in advance Olivia, Mckaylee, Erin and Caitlyn!
    • There will be a place for us to warm up/ review but it is first come first serve. Please be respectful and listen so we can be quick! (We did a pretty good job a that at UVU!)
    • Make sure you bring money for dinner! We will be stopping for food on the way home!
The competition is looking to end around 5:15pm with winning soloists performances, drill down and awards to follow. I'm thinking the competition will end around 6:30pm.

    Yay for our 2nd competition!

Can't wait to see all you parents there!!!

I would try and pack before the game.
      • Chloe is competing her solo on Friday night in Delta! We are so excited for her to compete! Yes, I know she's in hip hop, but we will just leave a hole. We love you Chloe!!
    • Saturday is Competition! I will be posting all the details for this competition tomorrow.

    Hip hop costumes

So, I wasnt able to order costumes, due to my lateness. I didnt know we had a little money until a coyple weeks ago, and I figured we were just going to find stuff at your homes. Sorry bout that, girls. So after being on the internet for days and traveling into Salt Lake to find something, which I didn't, I've come up with this idea- are you ready?
We will be doing a 90s grungy hip hop style. I've purchased white hats, that we will where side ways. You will where your black tanks, and you need to find a pair of baggy jeans, like your dads or something. I also have purchased some plaid boxers, that you will where under your pants, to show above the waistband of your pants. I know it sounds wierd, but it works. If you have troubles, please let me know. Heidi

    Game

Just wear the costume with your warmups as Jess listed, hair is same as last time, but no curly pony. Your braid needs to be under. (Always should be under.) The reason why is because some girls took their already done braid out just to fix it and others didn't. From now on when I say braided bangs they need to be under not over. :)

    Things to bring for tomorrow!

    Make sure you bring...
    • White Sparkly Unitard & Gloves
    • Jazz Pants (WITHOUT HOLES!)
    • Black Jazz Shoes
    • Sparkly Sports Bra
    • Body Tights
    • Make-up
    • Hair spray
    • Bobby Pins
    • Gel
    • Hair ties
    • Hair net that matches your hair color
    .... for the game tomorrow.

    Scheduled Practices

Remember that we have scheduled Officers practice for tomorrow (Tuesday) after school until 4:30pm.

Also, because all of us want to compete hip hop this weekend, we will be holding mandatory practices wed thurs and frid after school until 5pm. This week is crazy, but in the long run it will be worth it. Things will slow down a bit after this first competition.

Thanks girls for all your dedication and hard work!

    Facials and Sound effects!

    Military:
facials: angry military face up until kick line, smile the whole time :)then back to military face for the rest of the dance.

sounds: at the very beginning on the slow quick quick part we are doing a breathy huh..then on the two walks forward (right left) :) you say a breathy oh yeah..the tilt kick after the kickline is a breathy yeah..the snake sound on the splits..and finally the ripple of breathy yeahs on the 7&8 ribble beore the very end.

    Jazz:
facials: start out smiling up until the kick on 5 and then do open mouth smile (remember all jumps and kicks are open mouth smile) wink when you bring your hands out to a T and cross your feet.. Keep smiling up until fan kick, open mouth smile, then back to smiling.. The rest of the dance is a huge smile :) unless we do a kick or a jump..

sounds: at the start when we are on the ground do a breath on 4 when our heads are up.. None up until the party when we get off the ground you do a breathy yeah on the first side you hit. When we open to the front do a breathy ha, only for the first set of turns.. Then it's the ta's on the ripple, stop when the ripple stops.. (don't forget that on all of the rolls down we breathe out) and then a loud yeah when we hit one, before we all push forward as a group.. and then the breathy ha on the last two turns at the end and then a loud yeah on the end hit.

    Birds:
facials: smile at the start, when we turn around to go to our first spots do the i just won the lottery face :) smile unless you move your hands to your hip after the turns, do a kissy face on that part.. then smile until we move to the kick line, do a huge open mouth smile, then on the kicks just smile. smile through the whole pick a little talk a little until you look left or right then do a kissy face.. when you do your jump on the ripple do an open mouth. Smile (don't forget to mouth the words) :) up until the partner part in the third song, open mouth smile whe you look at your partner, then smile all the way through the rest of it. On flip flop fly, do the i won the lottery face again.. Smile all the way through until the run forward when your hands are in front of you.. and finish off with a smile :)

sounds: there are no sounds for this dance :)

These are so important! :) i know i keep harping on them and you guys are probably sick of me.. I promise that this type of thing is what will determine who places.. I love you guys :) we have been working so hard.. let's show them what we're made of :) -Janica

    Quote (:

"Nothing worth gaining was ever gained without effort."
    - Theodore Roosevelt

So, as you all know this is a VERY BIG WEEK! (:
We have been working very hard for a very long time, and its competition this week! Yay!
Make sure you are giving all your effort this week! We only have 5 more morning practices until Saturday, just saying (:
Well, I hope you all have a fabulous week! Take extra special care of your bodies so we are all in our best condition for Saturday!
Also, I think it would help us a lot for those who go to Jen's free technique class tomorrow! So, if you can, COME! (: It's gonna be fun! 2:30-4:00 @ The Dance Centre!
    Love you all!

    Dancer Comp Info

YAY! Our first competition! This will be such a fun, rewarding experience for all of us! And for half of us, this will be our very first Drill competition ever!

We will be meeting at the high school at 5:15am. Please be there on time with everything you need for competition. Our bus will leave at 5:30am.  Please go through your packing list with a family member the night before to make sure you have everything.

I will have Jessica post the packing list for everything you need. Make sure you bring your big rolling bags!

You will come with your hair and most makeup done before you arrive at 5:15am. There are limited mirrors at UVU and we are very first in hip hop. No exceptions! Plan accordingly!

We should arrive at UVU around 6:45am. When we arrive, you will need to get everything off the bus, pay attention and follow quickly. There will be a lot of teams. Please be respectful, be quiet, and have good sportsmanship.

After arriving, the team will get in their first costume, finalizing hair, makeup, pinning, while Janica, Veronica, and Katie do music checks and shoe checks. We will have about 10-15 minutes of floor time before the competition starts. This is a very crucial time to mark our spacing. Please NO talking during this time. We want to be able to use it wisely and be as effective as possible.

If you have to go anywhere during the competition, you must go with a buddy. Approval to go somewhere without the team must be approved by a coach.

Remember this week to begin preparations:

    • All nail polish needs to be removed.
    • Your fingernails are clipped, can't be passed your fingertips.
    • You have your hair nets matching the color of your hair (I'd buy a couple!)
    • You are stocked up on bobby pins
    • You have small safety pins (not too small, but smaller so they aren't so noticeable.)
    • You have competition gore boots and black Jazz pants. They cannot have any holes!
    • Many of you have stated that you have run out of black eyeliner. *Black eyeliner came for free with the bags, this was not part of your competition makeup. Make sure you have black eyeliner and mascara. (I will be providing you fake eyelashes.)
We have purchased the box lunches. They asked I tell you what we ordered so you know what you got, that way you don't take the wrong lunch. We have: 13 Turkey, 5 Ham, and 1 Beef. Please make sure you remember what you ordered!

Alternates- diligently go over all the choreography and spots/formations. We may need you!

Please be working on our specialty items: headstands, al la secondes, fouettes, leaps, splits, etc...

I am so excited. We have worked so hard. Keep it up girls- its almost here! Love all of you!

    Competition Info for Parents/Spectators

Our first competition is here! It is this Saturday at Utah Valley University at the UCCU Center (formerly known as the Mckay Events Center.) *Take the University Parkway exit in Orem, Turn Left off the exit, turn left at the first light, go all the way around the round about (last exit) follow the road and the Center will be on your R hand side.

Please park only in the designated parking spaces. Ticket prices are $8.00 each for Adults, kids 5 and younger are free of charge. The parking fee of $1 is included in the spectator price.

Parents/spectators can purchase tickets at the ticket box office and enter the arena 30 min prior to the competition start time. 9:00 am is the competition start time.

It states that No team members may sit in the spectator area. The seats on the south side of the arena will be reserved for the team members. The yellow seats on the east and west sides are for spectators. We will be staying as a team throughout the day of competition. We love your support but remember that your dancers are not allowed to sit with you during the day.

The letter I received also states that dancers are not allowed to have food in the dressing area. Now, since it will be a long day, I believe snacks will be fine. Please give your daughter lots of water or money to purchase water.

This will be a pretty big competition. In 3A, there are 11 teams attending. (That's a lot!)

Here are the tentative times of our performances. Remember that these can change up to an hour ahead or behind schedule. It's a long day, so if there are any big breaks, there is a mall close by you can go walk around and stretch out your legs at.

    Hip Hop 9:00am
    Officers around 10:30am
    Military around 12:40pm
    Dance around 3:30pm
    Character around 5:15pm

*Remember that the Mandatory divisions will be longer than the non-mandatory (Military, Dance, Character mandatory: Hip Hop and Officers non-mandatory)

Wear your Stallionette gear and sit together! It feels great when an entire section erupts with cheers! The girls have been working so hard for this! We thank you for all your continued support and can't wait to see you there!

    This Week!

I hope you all enjoyed your break! I hope you got lots of rest and ate lots of turkey! I can't believe competition is already here!!!

We will be working a lot on ALL or our comp routines this week during practice. This week will be busy, at times intense, but its well worth it!

    This Week:

Tuesday: Makeup teach/party is at 6pm in the dance studio. Come fully ready with hair and full performance dress. (for the game)
Tuesday: We will be performing half time at the girls basketball game. The game begins at 7pm.  We will be performing our dance routine.  Attending the game and sitting as a team is mandatory,
Thursday: Mandatory Hip Hop practice from 2:30-5pm. No exceptions! Competition is this week!
Friday: We will be having our Open practice to friends and family from 7:30am-8am. This is so we can get in those last performances and practice in front of an audience!
Saturday: Competition! I will be making a post following this with all the details!

    Things to keep in mind:

Next week we have a girls home game Tuesday 6th, and a boys home game Wednesday the 7th that we will be more than likely performing at (boys for sure, girls so tentative.) On Friday there is a girls game, but we will be missing it because its our Christmas Party at Emily's house! Details to come. Lastly, Pancratz is putting on their Nutcracker Saturday the 10th at 3pm and Monday the 12th at 7pm. Support Emma and Maggie!

    Free Technique Class

Note from Jen at the Dance Centre:

I hope you are doing well and that you're ready for competition season to begin!  I just wanted to let you know that I am holding a free class for anyone who is interested next Monday, 11/28 from 2:3-4 (my normally scheduled class hour).  I would like to offer this as an incentive for your girls to give a big push before their competitions start.  I hope this helps!  Please spread the word if you can.

Thanks and GOOD LUCK at your first event!

    Jen

I think this is a wonderful opportunity for you girls to get your last technique preparation before our first competition! Please try to attend- its free! Thanks Jen!

    This Week

Tonight we have many of our lovely ladies in the Dance Centre's Nutcracker. It's at Grantsville High School at 7:30pm. The group tickets are $3 each. If you did not purchase one from me this morning, than I will be there tonight- just pay $3 to me when you arrive. Otherwise, they are $5. Good Luck to all of the dancers performing tonight! We love you!

Tuesday and Wednesday we are having people come in to critique are pieces before our first competition. Come ready!!!

Tuesday night there is a basketball game, but we will not be performing due to the Dance Centre's Nutcracker. If you can go the the game, please wear your Stallionette warm ups and show your support! I'd also be ok if you choose to attend the Nutcracker that night. (Sorry we are missing the first two boys games! We will be at competition during the second home boys game...)

Wednesday is early out day! School gets out at 11:30am.  Hip Hop will be meeting after school (11:40) and practicing until 1pm. Officers will practice from 1:00-2:00pm and soloists will meet at 2pm. (Whew!) Even if you don't have a solo ready, I would like you to come so we can talk about some details. These are mandatory.

Thursday and Friday there's no school and practice since its moratorium. Sleep in, rest, and yes, eat lots of turkey! Remember to slow down over the weekend and appreciate your time with your families, give thanks to the things you have, and remember what's most important in life. Remember that I am grateful for each and every one of you. Us coaches are truly blessed to have such a wonderful group of dancers (despite the hard days!) :)

    Then....

Come back on Monday and get ready for competition Saturday! Yay!

Remember that there is no more soda! Take care of your bodies- you are all working so hard and need to keep your bodies hydrated and healthy to prevent from injury and dehydration. Our bodies are our sport, we use no equipment. It is so important to take care of your only instrument... you!

Trio of drill team athletes nab All-State honors

    Woohoo Kylie!

    http://www.tooeletranscript.com/view/full_story/16440486/article-Trio-of-drill-team-athletes-nab-All-State-honors?instance=home_news_left

Three athletic dancers from three separate local high schools earned the highest honor given in the state for individual drill team performance at a competition Nov. 1 at Juab High School in Nephi.

Tooele High School senior Baylee Wells, Grantsville High School junior Hailey Huber and Stansbury High School freshman Kylie Park were named 3A All-State drill team members at the competition. More than 65 top drill team members from 3A schools throughout the state competed at the event with 24 selected All-State. The girls had to learn a dance in one hour and then perform the dance with three other girls in front of three judges. They were selected because of their superior athleticism, showmanship, dance technique and ability to quickly learn and perform a new routine.

Wells has been a member of the THS ShaRonns for four years and competed for All-State honors last year in the 4A classification. “I was absolutely thrilled and excited about being selected; I danced last year and the competition was extremely difficult going up against all the larger schools in 4A,” Wells said. “I was in tears I was so happy,” said GHS Lariette Huber.

Members of the SHS Stallionettes, THS ShaRonns and GHS Lariettes work hard beginning in the summer and continue to perform for most of the school year with practices early in the mornings. There are 19 Stallionettes, 16 ShaRonns and 12 Lariettes. “It’s physically and mentally challenging,” Huber said. Members of the Stallionettes and ShaRonns voted on who they thought would be contenders at the All-State competition while Grantsville’s coach sent her top three athletes from scores from tryouts.

“Hailey Huber is just a fantastic all-around dancer and has tremendous leaping ability and technical skills,” said GHS coach Heather Sutton. “I believe she will make a fantastic college dancer.” Hailey Hardee and Alisha Manzanares were the two other top GHS drill team members selected to compete for All-State.

“Baylee is very responsible, works hard and is a great leader on our team,” said THS coach Erin Coffman. Hope Witherspoon is another top member of the team who was selected by her teammates for the All-State event. Wells said she has thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the ShaRonns for four years. “I just love to dance, enjoy being a leader and love being part of a team,” Wells said.

“It was awesome that a freshman was selected,” said SHS coach Kamie Zamora of Park’s All-State performance. Stansbury senior Janica Kendall and sophomore Erin Gilgen also competed. “They all did a great job; they are such hard workers,” Zamora said.

“It was so great, I was a little nervous, but it was very exciting,” Park said.

More competitions are scheduled for the drill teams at various invitationals, a Region 11 competition in January and then the 3A state championships in February.

    Hey parents,

Lots of help still needed for this weekend! Please be sure to let Gloria Bromley or me know if you can help Saturday with the dance . . . we need chaperones and ticket takers and cookie givers (between 8:00 and 11:00 p.m.). Also, if you can come help decorate Friday night (7:00 p.m. in cafeteria) any help will be appreciated!

    Thanks!

    change of plans

I just got word that the cafeteria had been double booked. The staff are having a chili cook off in the cafeteria until about 6:30 on Friday. We will be decorating at 7pm. Please be there and plan a couple of hours. (Good thing is that we don't have practice Saturday, so you can hopefully sleep in!)

I apologize about the inconvenience. Remember that this is mandatory- no exceptions! Thanks ladies.

    MVD

    This weeks MVD is Paige!
She was chosen because she is awesome!
Also, she has been working really hard at practice, and has been improving a lot!
Congrats, We love you Paige! :)

    Black Unitards

With in preparations for competitions, please make sure now that your full black unitards are hemmed. We will get penalized if a dancers heel steps on her pant. They can touch the floor, but again, the dancer cannot step on them. We will be wearing these unitards for military and jazz.

    Thanks!

    Gore Boot Order

I will be putting in orders for our black gore boots this week. They are about $40. ($39 and some cents) When I see how many would like to order, I can get the official price from Backstage.

I need to have who needs a new competition pair and all the sizes by Wednesday of this week. Please leave a comment below with the given information.

You can have your dancer pay their money to the Drill account. This money will need to be in by the break before Thanksgiving- so Wednesday of next week. If you have money in the account for getting extra sponsors, etc.. you can apply this towards shoes. Please leave the dancers name, size, and how you will be paying below.

    Thank you!

P.S Consider ordering some if :

    • Your dancer only has one pair of black gore boots.
    • Your dancer has holes in their black gore boots received this year.
    • Your dancers shoes are too big/too small. (They should fit snug, shoe should not be able to slide at all) Since gore boots stretch out, I would go off of your old, worn gore boot size. If they are too big NOW, get a smaller size. (There are half sizes)
    Thank you!

    This Week

As always, we have a busy week!

This Thursday are our Hazen's Proofs. Please remember what time you signed up for; I do not have a copy of this sheet. Be there on time!

Friday we will be decorating for Chick Pick right after school. Meet in the dance studio to help carry down supplies as soon as school gets out. This is mandatory, no excuses! Parents are not allowed to replace their dancer for set up. Must stay until the cafeteria is fully decorated. Demerits will be given if dancers leave early.

Friday night is also the Basketball Bash at 7pm. We will not be performing, but it will be a merit opportunity if attended.

Saturday is Chick Pick! The dance is from 8pm-11pm. Tickets are $10 Individual and $15 for Couple. Please remind your friends and classmates and also tell them we will be selling tickets at the door if they don't purchase them by Friday. If you have a date, you will just need to pay for one ticket. If you don't have a date, you will get in free.

If you don't have a date, you are required to be there at 7:30pm to help set out cookies, etc...  Demerits will be given if late.

All dancers are required to help clean up when the dance ends. Parents cannot replace their dancer for cleanup. (Just have your dates stay and help- its a great service project and will literally only take 10 mins! Then you can go on with your evening.) Demerits will be given if dancers leave early.

We have been working so hard; keep you the great work ladies! We only have less then 2 1/2 weeks left of practice before competition! Stay hydrated!

    Saturday, November 12, 2011

I was wondering if we have a seamstress who can help sew armbands by friday?
Also, this week will be wacky womens week. This means we have a theme everyday, for a date.
    Mon- board game night
    Tues- spaghetti night
    Weds-disney movie night
Thurs- game night- maybe we can get a giant kickball game at the baseball fields.
Fri- food drive night ( collect cans for the food bank)
We need posters with this info on it. It would be great if some can do those.
Chick pick is mandatory on sat. Everyone has to be there for decorating on fri and the dance on sat. We are also cleaning right after the dance. Your required to participate and have fun. No drama, please. We need chaperones as well, so parents, if you can do this, please talk to gloria bromley and let her know.she is the parent in charge. Every girl is required to bring 2 dz cookies and we need someone in charge of drinks. We need parents in charge of tickets sales as well. I will give more info about the time we meet for decorating for friday. Thanks for all the participation. It will be a blast

    This Past Week's MVD :)

This week was the officer's turn to choose an MVD.
We decided to choose Kendra because of her AWESOMENESS!
We also loved how she always has good comments to add while cleaning!
She is just fabulous! And we love her!! :)

    Hip Hop

Remember that hip hop is meeting after school Friday. Bring your shoes! Thanks!

    Movie Night

    Movie night Saturday! Yay!

Remember to be at my house at 5pm and bring $2.00 each for pizza. (I know I said $3 today, but I think we'd be ok with $2.00 each!) If you are bringing a side dish or drinks, then you don't need to bring any money!!!

Bring any dance movies you'd like. We will watch drill videos, fun coach videos, and then possibly finish it off with a fab movie!

Address is 238 west Alfred Drive Tooele. If you are coming down main street (from Stansbury) turn R on 1000 N (right before Wendy's/Walkers) take your first L, go all the way around the bend and then take your first R (on Alfred Drive) then just look for my house number, I'll be on the R side of the street! You should see my car in the driveway, and there's a wreath on the door.

    See you all there!

    Tuesday, November 8, 2011

    Soup Dinner/Game

We are having a mandatory soup dinner at Heidi's at 3:45pm tomorrow. (No exceptions, demerits will be issued if not attended or late unless approved) Come completely ready for the game, dressed, makeup done., and warm. (we wont have much time to stretch before the game.)

    Please remember the following:

-No cell phones unless absolutely necessary  (with coaches approval)
    -NO hugging in uniform, period.
-Friends are not allowed to sit in our block formation- they can come say hi, but then they need to move on.
-We are always cheering with the cheerleaders.

    AND have FUN!!!!

If the above mentioned are not followed, demerits will be issued.

Thanks and lets have a great day tomorrow.

    Football Game!

Wear Your Black Stallionette Shirt, black jazz pants and warms ups! (We probably won't be kicking in just our jazz pants so don't freak out) It's going to be freezing, so make sure to wear warm socks (Yes. Socks. Preferably black.) Jacket, hats, scarfs, mittens, coats, extra pants. Haha whatever you think you need to stay warm! Keep it school colors if you can please! You can wear your hair down before half time if and only if: when you kick it's out of your face, (throwing it in a quick pony tail or hidden back by a hat, whichever works.) For halftime it needs to be in a low pony in the back of your head! Make sure that you have someone there to count your kicks at halftime! (trust me, you WON'T wanna count your own.) Kamie said light comp. makeup for tomorrow night.
At School wear your black shirt as well :) (I'm saving you laundry detergent!)
Remember our Soup Par-tay! at Heidi's tomorrow! Kamie? or Heidi? Will post about that!
hmm.. I think I got it all.. Hopefully!
Remember what we said this morning- we're not gonna get anywhere being negative! Try and be more positive :) love you guys!

    Tomorrow's Assembly

Tomorrow is Thriller! I am so excited to do this- you girls definitely deserve a super FUN performance like this!

Tomorrow, we still have early morning, but I am excusing you from ALL of 1st period. Kelly Clark is excusing her cheer leaders at 8:15, but since we have early morning, I think its a little pointless to release you at 7:35 for you to get ready for 20 minutes, just to stay in your class for 15 minutes and then having to get ready for the assembly. SO, you will be excused from 1st period and we will practice until 8 am. I will then release you to get ready for Thriller.

Make sure you bring all of your Thriller stuff tomorrow! (Makeup, etc...) I will be there to help you with your makeup if needed!

Thanks fabulous girls and I'll see you tomorrow!
*Don't come in Thriller gear- come in practice gear!

    Monday, October 24, 2011

    Thriller!!

Okay, so here is what you need to have for thriller!
    • Black Jazz Pants
    • Long Sleeve black shirt
    • Black gloves
    • "Tattered" dirty looking clothes, browns, blacks, and greys are best. (You can use brown, black, or grey spray paint to make them look dirty)
    • White and Black eye shadow
    • Black Lipstick (If you don't have any I've used black eyeliner before.. so you could just do that.)
    • A REALLY good comb to tease your hair.
Don't worry about looking stupid, the more all out you go, the better it will look. :)
Plus, like Kamie said, its "Zombie" Day at school Thursday!

    Miss Drill Utah Clinic Information

Wanted to pass on an email that I recieved:

    Hello Coaches,
If you have any dancers that are interested in doing the Miss Drill Utah Pageant, there is a workshop that will be held on November 1st immediately following the ALL-STATE audition. The cost is $10.00, parents are encouraged to come with them. We will go over all of the details about modeling, interview/onstage question, solo, humanitarian project, and much more. If you have dancers that are not an All-State representative then just tell them to come after the audition ( not sure what time that would be, maybe you can keep them posted as the night goes on). Remember that there is a TEEN category for those that are not 16 years old by the pageant date, so please send them also. The actual Miss Drill Utah Pageant is FEB. 9th(Thursday late afternoon and evening) at Juan Diego Catholic HS. Mark your calendars!!! It's an event you won't want to miss!!

All-state auditions are Nov 1st starting at 3:00 pm at Juab High School. You can find out more information about the Miss Drill Competition at http://www.uddsc.com

Please let me know if you are interested in doing Miss Drill and planning on attending the clinic - it is a great opportunity for all of our dancers!

    Thanks!

    Hazen Picture Takes Date

The Hazen picture take day has been changed from Oct 21st to

    Oct 28th @ 3pm at the school.

    Please mark your calendars accordingly.

    Tomorrow's Game and Assembly

Tomorrow we will have practice at 6:30am to go over formations/alternates for camp dance.

You girls did a great job in practice today! I'm excited for military tomorrow- it will be a fabulous day!

The assembly is PM, starting around 1:35. Dancers will be released at 12:50. Don't leave early!

We are doing camp dance for the football game and parents will be selling hot chocolate, donuts, waterbottles, etc.. again.

All girls need to be completely ready and at the school at 6:15pm. Please meet outside of the dance studio to warm up. Reps will save our seats (i'd make signs :)

    YAY!

    Tonight/Hazens

Remember tonight is our Hazen's Meeting. It will be held at 6pm at the high school in the classroom directly next to the small gym. Each dancer must have someone be there, (it can be a parent or girl.)

Each girl is required to bring $30 tonight. Here is some clarification on what that is for.

Hazen's makes a requirement of each girl to pay a total of $45 to be in and get a copy of the team photo. The $30 you are paying tonight is a "deposit" that covers the sit fee and team photo. On the day of the photo shoot, you will only need to bring an extra $15.

Hopefully that clears things up just a bit. Any other questions can be directed and asked to the Hazen's representative.

    Thank you!

    Resources

I made changes to our tabs above to allow more space for important information. Note the following changes so you can get the most out of our blog:
    • Our "Important Events" tab has been removed and has been combined with the "Calendar" tab.
    • I have created a "Fundraiser" tab. This tab will have all current and future fundrasier information.
    • I have created a "Technique" tab. Dancers refer to this to help them with various technical skills.
    • The "Practice" tab is now called "Music". All current music is posted under this tab. Practice wear is located on the side bar.

    Quote 10/10-10/14!

Sorry guys, this one's kinda long:) but i promise it's really good!!!!!!

"Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character."
    -
    T. Alan Armstrong

This basically says it all...If we want to be champions NOW is the time to do so, not at competition. Isn't that what we want-to be champions??

    Also,
Remember Attitude is everything! If you have a good attititude, things will go well. If you have a bad attitude, things will not go well. It is as simple as that. So, remember to have a good attitude. :)

    Your Homework

Since we didn't get much accomplished in practice today, I need all of you to really focus this weekend reviewing the dance changes, reviewing military, and be working on those technical skills in our routines (ie, headstands, al la secondes, fouettes, etc..) Come Monday lets just pick up where we left off and get a bunch accomplished!

Megan- awesome MVD this week. Thanks for always working hard- we didn't get much time to talk about your awesomeness; so just remember that you're awesome!!!!

    This upcoming week we have:
Hazens Detail Meeting Wednesday @ 6pm at the High School
PM Assembly and Home Game vs Grantsville Thursday

We will be letting you know a the beginning of the week what dances we will be doing.

Lovely ladies, remember that some practices will be harder than others, and it's how you take those practices and grow from them that make the difference. No matter the critiques, the repetitive dances, or all the sweat, remember that we are all working towards a common goal; improving and being the best we can be. (Individually and as a team.) As coaches, our job is to train you, help you improve, and coach you; don't get discouraged when we are harder on you at times, that's our job. We just see all the potential you have and want to get you to that next level!

Lastly, don't get too hung up on practice today over the weekend; nothing is 100% finalized yet, so keep your heads high until we give you official word.

    Thanks-

Hey everyone, I wanted to tell you how much each and everyone of you matter. I'm so excited for this year cause you all are great dancers. Please remember that you are part of a team, and that you need to be unified to be great. Every little detail matters. Please dont feel offended when we try to correct you. We know you are working hard and we just want you to be the best. instead of feeling offended, say thank you and correct it and know that that correction is one step closer to that trophy your working hard for. This isn't easy, otherwise it would be some other sport hahaha. We need to put all those little differences behind us and start fresh everyday. If there is at all any problems, we are here to help you. Please trust us. We love you guys, or we wouldn't be here for you. We know you're all wonderful, now prove it to yourself and the rest of those schools that you are. Lets show them who rules. I want to challenge each one of you to make a new goal everyday, to improve on something or stand out or even make someone elses day by giving them a some great remark. I double dog dare you.
    We love you- Coaches

    Hip Hop Music

Your Hip Hop music has been posted under the practice tab.

Keep your heads high, keep working hard, and lets really take our team to the next level!

Practice ALL the changes we made in Dance today, and remember; it is better to change what isn't great now, so we can truly perfect ourselves and focus on executing a GREAT routine.

I'm very excited for Jazz, I think with a few added touches and cleaning it up, it will be awesome. Tomorrow we will be reviewing all dances, especially Dance and Military.

Love you all- let's work it!

"The road to success is always under construction." - Unknown
so, if we want our team to be a successful one, we need to be working hard in practice, and in the end it will all be worth it. (:

    Hazen Changes!

The dates and times of Hazens has changed. Here are the new dates:

    • October 12th (wed): Hazens Meeting 6pm at Stansbury High School $30 deposit DUE!! - all girls required to pay
    • ?? (We are working with Hazens to fix this date) TBA - October 21st (Frid): HAZEN Picture Takes at Stansbury High starting at 3pm
    • November 4th (Frid): Hazen Proofs starting at 3pm at Stansbury High
Please review the handout we gave the girls. Chantal is here if you have any questions! (She is the one that has been talking to them- thanks Chantal!)

These dates can also be found in out calendar tab.

    Presenting the Flag Tomorrow!!!

    ALL TEAM MEMBERS:

I'm still getting details, but we were asked if we could present the flag at the red ribbon assembly tomorrow.

I believe that the color guard will be gone (still getting details/assuming) so of course we will help out! (because we are awesome..) :)

Please bring your warm ups, black shirts, and black hip hop shoes to school tomorrow. We are on PM Assembly schedule. We are not performing in this assembly (it's not a pep assembly), but we will just be presenting the flag. We will go over a walk on/counts tomorrow. (Janica, be thinking if you have any ideas- something simple) I was just going to have our officers present, but I thought it would look really cool to have the officers in front presenting, then the rest of the team in a straight line in the back. (That way, no one will get us confused with the color guard.)

    Please plan accordingly!!!! Thank you!

    Donut Fridays

We have been approved to sell donuts every Friday at school. We will be giving the next couple of Fridays a shot, and I will see how it affects our practice time/girls. I will probably have my alternates (depending on which dance) sell the majority of the time, but probably in shifts so they are only gone about 15 minutes from practice.

So, as of now, we will be selling donuts every Friday from 7:25am - 7:55am by the cafeteria. Leslie Lerwill has graciously offered her services to order the donuts and help set-up/sell every Friday! (Thanks Leslie!)

I have put it in the Bulletin to have announced every Thursday.

    Thanks!
